One of the books I read for my AR test is called The Lightning Thief, the first book of the Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan. When I was in Korea, I didn’t even know there was a book like this. When I came to Saipan, there were a lot of people who read this book, and suggested I read it too. I finished this book using the thickest dictionary in my home. I normally don’t finish a book, but I could finish it because I really enjoyed the story. One of my hobbies while I was in Korea was to research Greek and Roman mythology. This is the main reason why I enjoyed this book. I was impressed by the concept of the characters because they were all gods or children of gods. In the novel, the main character was Percy Jac
kson, who was the son of Poseidon, and the villain was Hades, who is the god of undergound. I think it was a good idea to fuse ancient mythologies and modern cultures.
Also, this book is about Percy finding and delivering his dad’s precious thunder arrow after Percy reallizes that he is unique. During Percy’s trip, his mom dies, and he goes to hell to get his mom back. The most impressive part of the story was when mom and Percy were separated, because this reminded me when I was coming to Saipan and had leave my mom in Korea.
