The Kite Runner: Summary of Chapters 6-8

SUMMARY:

In chapters six to eight, many tragic things have happened. More tragic things have happened than happy, joyful things.

The time period is winter, which is the season for the kite flying. Amir dreams about winning the kite flying tournament this year. Amir likes the winter time like most of Afghan kids like winter too. There no school for the winter time, and the reason that the Afghan kids love the winter was kite flying. Amir and Hassan used to make their own kites with bamboo, glue, string, and paper, and they coated the string with the glasses to cut the other kite’s string. There’s also the kite running. Kite running is important as kite fighting. Kite running is chasing the kite after kite is got cut. Hassan was the best kite runner in his town. Amir really wants to win the tournament to get closer with Baba by winning the tournament. Hassan and Amir played card game at the night before the kite fighting tournament. Amir won the card game but actually Hassan let him win. At the kite fighting tournament, Amir won the kite fighting tournament, and the Hassan ran for the second kite and he was chased by Aseef and his crew. Assef and his crew asked Hassan to give him the kite, but Hassan refuses. Then Assef raped Hassan, but at that moment, Amir was watching it but he didn’t try to get in to that situation because he was afraid. Then Amir met Hassan walking down. Amir knew everything, but he acted like he doesn’t know anything. Then Amir recalled that he and Hassan was feeding from the same breast. When they get back to the house, Baba held up Amir because Amir won the kite fighting and he also brought the second kite. Then they had a dinner because Amir won the kite fighting, When everybody fells a sleep, Amir yelled that he saw Hassan raped. But no one was able to listen. They had the party for Amir’s thirteenth birthday party. Assef was also there. Assef was acting like he is a nice person to Baba, and Amir was not able to stand for it, so he yelled at him but Baba was asking Amir to apologize to him. Amir got a present from Assef and it was Hitler’s biography. He threw that away. Rahim Khan came to Amir and he gave Amir a present

OPINIONS:

I think this part of the story is the one of the climax parts of the story. So far in the story, the main conflict was the relationship between Amir and Baba, and the way Amir developed his relationship with Baba by winning the kite fighting. But in these chapters, Amir won the first place in the kite fighting tournament and he also saw a bad thing which was the raping scene of Hassan. This part is very important because the main conflict was solved, but there were bigger conflicts coming to Amir after he gets better with Baba. The story becomes really dependent on the action of Amir.

PREDICTIONS:

According to story so far, we can predict several things. Because there were accidentS with Hassan and Assef, and Amir was the one who saw that, we can predict that they are going to get further in bad things happening. Also, we can predict that relationship between Baba and Amir will develop into a happier relationship because Amir won the kite fighting. We also can predict that Amir and Hassan may be related to each other because the story explains about the Amir’s memory in which they were feeding from the same breast.
