CONNECTIONS:
Text to Text:
-I made a connection the to the portion of the book where Amir talks about memories in his childhood with Hassan on page two. This connects with the part in the book, Charlotte's Web when it talks about how the main character had good childhood memories.
- The portion on page four where Amir tells us that his mother died reminds me of the part in the book, The Little Princess, where Sarah, the main character, told us that her mother died, and she and her father only had each other.
-The last text to text connection I made for the story is when Hassan got bullied and criticized by some other boys because of his cleft lip to when Mernissi, the main character of Size 6: The Western Woman's Harem , received criticism from the saleslady for her body being "too big".
Text to Life:
In the story, Hassan and Amir are best friends who grew up together and know each other very well, and think about each other and care about. I make a connection to my life, because I also have a friend who has a same relationship with Hassan and Amir. I have friend names Chae Hyun Lee. I knew her for a long time, and we grew up together, and we help each other, gives each other advice. I made connection because, when I read the book, the relationship between Hassan and Amir reminds me about me and my friend.
Text to World:
This story reminds me about the news that I saw in the CNN last week. The news was about the baby was found in a creek be researcher. The baby was just 5 months old. During the story, Hassan’s mother left Hassan when he was young. These two events have some common thing that the mother of that child left her child alone when the child was young. I think the mother should not let their child alone, because it is they are baby, and they should be responsible to their babies. I hope these situations won’t happen anymore.
In the story kite runner, the Amir’s mother dies, when she giving birth to the Amir. This part reminds me about the article that I read about the teenage mother died while she’s giving birth to twins. On March 11, a 19 years old teenage mother died after 48 hours giving a birth to the twins. Also in the story, Amir’s mother died while she is giving a birth to children.
JOURNAL ENTRY:
The novel begins with a flashback. The author's pupose of starting the novel with a flashback is probably because the author wanted to give a hint (introduction) to what may happen in the future. He might have intended for telling the readers about what happened in the past that created this episode later on.
I think this flashback helps the reader to get a basic introduction and idea about the story and sets a good start on the novel. This helps the readers learn about the narrator too because it gives a bit of background information about the main character. The author hinted in his introduction that Amir does not have a mother, but has a popular-in-town father. Hosseini also used this part of the novel to introduce some of the characters like Hassan, his father Ali, and Baba, who is Amir's father.
OPINIONS OF CHARACTERS AND STORY SO FAR:
While I was reading this novel, I thought back about unmindful things I never would think about. In this post, I would like to talk about how I thought of this story, characters.
When I was reading the Kite Runner, I could imagine a lot situations at once. In first two chapters, I was drawing picture of how Amir and Hassan playing with slingshots, shooting to dogs. I also thought of Amir avoiding Hassan because Hassan is Amir’s Servant. When I noticed that that Hassan is Amir’s servant and this fact caused Amir to avoid Hassan, I thought back about racist and cast discrimination. I was born in Korea when this country is very peaceful so I couldn’t feel any sorrow for the people who had hard time, but I could feel it by reading this. This was one of the unmindful fact I could think back.
There were so many characters came out from this story, and Some of them were family so I could feel similar parts, or different parts. First character comes to my mind when I think of this book is Amir, that is probably this book almost talks about Amir the most, but also this character was unique. Amir was Sone of Baba and friends with Hassan. Because Baba and Amir are families, I could feel they are similar to each other. the main reason I think they are similar is they both didn’t really like their servants. Hassan is son of Ali and also servant of Amir. I thought of this character really kind because this character never got angry at Amir even though Amir always avoided him. Ali was was his dad, and this made me feel about Ali similar to Hassan.
PREDICTIONS:
We only read to chapter five, but we are predicting that many things will be happening as the story goes on. In chapter five, we learned that war comes to the land of Afghanistan (July 17, 1973). In chapter five, neighborhood boys, Assef, Wali, and Kamal talk about Hitler and his "ethnic cleansing". They also talk about how Afghanistan needs to get rid of the Hazaras, or poor people in society. We can predict from this hint of the story that the Hazaras will be treated more unfairly, and many bad events will occur. The war that just started in this chapter will continue into a long war. Also, we can predict that the story will tell more about Hassan's mother as it goes on.
