Holes is a young-adult mystery and comedy novel written by Louis Sachar.

SUMMARY:

Stanley Yelnats was a boy who had the worst luck because of his great-great grandfather (as he claims). Stanley had been sent to Camp Green Lake for a crime he did not commit. While he was walking back to his house from school, a pair of shoes unexpec

tedly fell onto him. Those shoes were donated to poor people by a famous basketball player. Stanley did not know that the shoes were special, so he brought them home and showed them to his dad. Unfortunately, he got caught by the police. Stanley did not even know the cause for this situation, and he was sent to court. He had two choices of punishment: one was to go to Camp Green Lake and the other was to go to jail. Stanley had never been to a camp, so he logically chose to go to Camp Green Lake because he thought it would be fun.

While Stanley was riding the bus to Camp Green Lake, he had a bad feeling about the camp because they had been traveling for several hours in a desert. When he finally arrived at Camp Green Lake, he could see two trees and some tents in an empty desert. He was brought inside a tent and saw a guy sitting with a gun. Stanley was told that he needed to dig five-foot long holes every day. He panicked. However, he became good friends with one of the boys, Zero, and they helped each other out. Zero did not know how to read, but he was really fast at digging holes. Therefore, he helped Stanley dig his holes, while Stanley taught Zero how to read. One day, however, Zero had escaped from the camp.

Stanley also managed to escape from the camp and followed Zero. He did not know where to go and just headed toward a mountain. He met Zero in a stranded boat that was flipped over. The two then headed to the mountain, but Zero was getting weak, so Stanley had to carry him up. On the mountain, Stanley found a bunch of onions and fed some to Zero so he could regain his energy. When they were both strong enough to head back to the camp, they stumbled upon a chest in one of the holes. The leader of the camp caught them and demanded that they give the chest to her. Fortunately, Stanley’s lawyer showed up and told him that he was dismissed from his punishment. He took the chest and Zero with him, and the camp ended up being shut down.

OPINIONS ON THE STORY:

I suggest you to read this book because this book gave me fun time while reading and also made me continue read even though I had another schedule, which means it is a very interesting story.
